Poetry Slam Poster Series
The Bowtie café was having a fictional poetry slam featuring three of the most famous American poets of all time. To create interest for this event I had to create a series of posters that would help advertise the poetry slam and represent the styles of each writer. I began with Poe and focused on the imagery of his work, hearts, crows, death all the fun stuff. After a few drafts I developed an aesthetic that seemed to fit him and would also be flexible enough to apply to the others. The backdrops were made using imagery and symbols from the authors work. The faces of the men were then turned into black and white and methodically erased until enough of the back was exposed. I maintained enough space of the right for the type so that it would not be interrupted by the artwork.
